On October 7th, 2025, Rocklin’s varsity flag football team scored 25-22 against the St. Francis team after a very close loss to the same team last week. They’ve just come off a four game losing streak and currently have four wins and five losses under their belt in the SFL playoffs, making them number six in the league.
The game was a nail-biter, with St. Francis scoring 8 points in the final quarter and being extremely close to a touchdown in the final moments, which would have handed them another victory. Coach Ryan Spears comments on the game, saying “It got a little closer than I wanted it to at the end, but our girls really stepped it up.” Star player Allyson Kuan, who made three interceptions also reflects on the stress of the game, stating, “I was pretty stressed out, but I knew I wanted it. I knew our team wanted it, and we needed this. So, we pushed out and we gave it our all.”
After the very close loss to St. Francis the week before, 22-21, the team knew they had to make a change to step up their game. Player Leigha Gotti describes what changed between then and now, explaining, “I think this game we were a lot more intense, and last game we were intense, but we kind of let it go a little bit at the end, [and] this time we really stayed on them the entire time.” Coach Spears also reminisces on the last game and what changes were made, stating, “I think we just got a little more aggressive. We got a little passive. Last time we played, and it showed this game, because we, I think we had six or seven interceptions. So, our defense really got aggressive.” Rocklin’s commitment to improvement proves they are back in it to win it.
The team also explained their goals for the rest of the season, hoping to make a full comeback during the SFL season and hopefully advance. Kuan states that “Our goal for the team is hopefully to win the rest of the season. Play hard, full effort, like non-stop working hard.” Gotti also states that her goals are simply to “win more games and have more fun.”
Rocklin’s varsity flag football team is telling the rest of the SFL league they are working hard and playing to win with this comeback, and this time they’re not messing around.
