On Fridays during FLEX, students from the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (RRR) club gathered in Mr. Kimmel’s classroom for club activities. Instead of just discussing about their club, they accepted the responsibilities of the now-gone Gardening Club by tending to the RHS garden by pulling out weeds or watering plants.
According to senior Kailee Narita, the RRR club has been taking care of the garden “since the beginning of the [spring] semester.” She said that the garden was becoming “overgrown,” which was why she decided to help it out with her club.
Next year may have some challenges for them, however. Their advisor-Mr. Kimmel-is retiring this year, meaning that the RRR club needs a new teacher to be their advisor for next year. When Narita graduates, she hopes that an underclassman “takes over and leads the [RRR] club.”
She said that her club is small and about six people come regularly. “It’s pretty small, but it’s what we need to get things done and have a really fun, memorable moment, working in the garden and making strong bonds with not only our earth but each other as well,” she said.
