Rocklin High School students partake in a breathalyzer test to ensure safety and sobriety at the Heavenly Dance in the gym on January 16, 2025. Vice president Mr. Daley explained, “This is from a district protocol. This is something that Whitney High School has been doing for a number of years, and our district wanted us to be consistent with other schools…” Dr. Robbins, assistant principal, adds, “it’s primarily for student safety… and health at our dances, but it was also to ensure that we have some commonality across districts…” Junior Liam Moore explains, “It was pretty simple. We just walked in, blew into the machine and went on through.” Similarly, Freshman Maddie McCright shares, “It was really easy, and they made it a quick process.” Dr. Robbins assures, “So far everybody’s been great, we haven’t had any positive reaction[on the breathylizer]and everybody’s been really cooperative, some were a little bit nervous but overall, it’s been really positive.” In addition to being quick and easy it helps maintain safety. Robbins shares, “It has a lot of deleterious effects on your overall health but at dances specifically, you could end up not having stability, and injuring yourself [or others], especially if you’re on some of our elevated platforms… We also just want to make sure that everybody is experiencing the dance in a really positive way, and not everyone’s comfortable around others who are under the influence.”
