Serving God’s Mission

After high school, many students feel the need to focus on solely their own futures.  However, Jacob Schmidt, a member of Rocklin High’s class of 2014, has selflessly chosen to concentrate on the lives of hundreds of strangers rather than his own.

Throughout his childhood, Jacob watched as his two older brothers grew up to become Mormon missionaries and spread God’s word.  Their brotherly support and inspiration contributed to his own decision to be a missionary.

“I grew up knowing that I wanted to spread the Gospel and teach people about Mormonism” Jacob said.

Although Jacob is unsure of how long he will be away or where he is headed for his mission trip, he is planning to attend college at BYU after completing service to pursue a career separate from his missionary duties.

“I’m hoping to become a genetic engineer someday” Jacob said.

Even though Jacob’s choice requires sacrificing his own time and postponing his career, he is ready to follow in the footsteps of his two brothers and demonstrate his religious dedication by actively spreading the values of Mormonism.

Jacob’s unique pursuit of serving a mission will take him in unknown directions that leave his future away from Rocklin High School undefined for the time being.
