On Wednesday November 19th, 2025, teachers protested in support of the Rocklin Teachers Professional Association (RTPA), a labor union representing the staff and teachers of the Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD). The association negotiates with the distract on the behalf of it’s members regarding salaries, benefits, and student support. Many teachers stood outside of the parking lot holding up signs, petitioning to support the cause. This all occurred before teacher’s contract hours which begin at 8:15.
April Kenitzer, one of the teachers in this protest at RHS said “A lot of people think it’s just pay, but it’s not. It’s helping with our benefits and also student safety in the classrooms. We have really been struggling with that, especially at the elementary level, and we’re really trying to bring awareness for that.” Teachers who are part of the union which spans all RUSD schools were out on the corners of there school showing support. “We are out here just making sure everybody knows what’s going on and just bringing awareness to our negotiations that are not going well,” Kenitzer said.
Teachers went through a very similar situation eight years ago, they were on the corners of their schools protesting for the same support they are today. They protested “every single week for months” before coming to the conclusion that “maybe it’s not worth [their] time,” Kenitzer said. To Kenitzer and other teachers it feels like, “people aren’t listening and aren’t thinking that we were taking it seriously, so we’re here to show them.”
