On the night of Saturday, October 25 the Rocklin High School Band appeared at the annual Creepy Concert. Every year the students in the groups of Marching Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Orchestra all dress up as their favorite Halloween costumes and have a spine chilling performance. These groups picked mysterious Halloween inspired pieces to present to the audience to give a spooky feel to the night. The Creepy Concert is a long awaited concert that many look forward to attending. It is a great way to kick off the school year by combining the RHS VAPA programs to produce a ghostly show. Many Rocklin students are involved with many of these programs and have expressed how welcoming and loving this community is. For some this was their first of many Creepy Concerts to come, while others it is their last. It was full of bitter sweet moments and lots of pride for Rocklin High School.
The Creepy Concert takes a lot of effort and preparation to be as perfected as it is. A Senior as Rocklin High School, Penelope Blythe said, “Some ways I prepared for the shows was showing up to rehearsals. I work hard, and I make sure I practice. I can’t let anyone down, so I need to work hard.” Not only do the students take the necessary steps to tidy up the performance but so do the teachers and directors. The instrumental music director at RHS, Jeffery Hayman, said “We rehearse in class, and then rehearse in class again and rehearse in class again, until here we are.” Overall people were content on how smooth the show was, but stated that there could be improvements made. Mr. Hayman said, “Well, there are certain things, certain moments, that I feel like I could probably use review before the second performance, but it was a good performance.” Penelope also described her last Creepy Concert. She said, “I’m not sad about it being my last year. I enjoy doing it every year and just because it’s my last doesn’t mean that it has to be the end.” Just like Penelope, Mr. Hayman dove into past experiences and recounted his class improvements. He said, “I’d like to think that we have improved [from previous years]. I’d say one thing that I’ve probably done a little better is maintain sort of classroom expectations in my classes that tend to fall off the expectation wagon.” To sum up, all the Band Ensembles showed their hard work and talent in their spooky tunes at the Creepy Concert.
