On October 15, Rocklin’s Varsity Girls Volleyball won in dominating fashion against the Granite Bay Grizzlies for the second time this season sweeping all the sets in a 3-0 victory. With the win the Thunder continue their win streak with six wins in a row as they remain first in the SFL with an 11-1 record and a total record of 28-4 on the season, ranking them 10th in the state.
A great performance by everyone who played in the game, Assistant Coach Kate Mitchell when asked about who was the star player for today’s game had this to say, “I don’t think we had a star. I think everybody stepped up and played the role they needed to play, and that’s why we won. With the scores we did.” However, Mitchell did believe that the seniors leadership really carried through this game, one of those being senior Gianna Bogan who has a hitting percentage of .260 and 214 kills on the season, “They’ve been really good leaders. Looking back to our game against Whitney, we were, it was set three. We were down a lot, and it was Gianna, who was the one who said, You know what, we are going to win this and we went on a huge 10 Point run and ended up coming back and winning. And winning the set under her leadership with that.”
Other notable seniors were Addy Scheitlin, Ava Pabalate, and team captain Devon Schweitzer who Mitchell believed have contributed a ton during the season, “You have Addy, another big outside for us, Ava, who’s running our offense most of the time, right? And then we have Devin taking as many balls as she can in the back row and being a big game changer back there for us to chill with Devin all the seniors, They’ve all handled it really well.”
The Thunder is firing on all cylinders as they head into their final two games of their regular season where they’ll face off against the Davis Sr. Blue Devils, hoping to beat them for the second time this season on October 20.
