On Sunday, October 5, Rocklin High School’s float construction continued in full swing. While most people know that homecoming floats are planned by ASB leaders, few realize how much work goes into making them.
Junior Miranda Loretto explained, “Well, it all starts around May, where we choose the homecoming theme at our ASB retreat.” At this retreat they watch a ton of movies to find the best movie that fits each class. She added, “It’s basically a really big brainstorming session that’s made with everybody in the ASB. And then we throw out ideas. And then we rounded off to one homecoming idea, which was Pixar this year.” All of those ideas come together over the summer to create the spirit and theme of homecoming.
Each class is given a $750 budget to buy materials for their float designs. Student leaders handle most of the heavy lifting by creating the designs for the floats, ordering materials, and finding the house to build the float. Teachers advise and oversee each day of float construction. One of the Teacher Advisors, Sean Spiess joked, “We’re just here to make sure no one chops off their hand with a power tool.”
These beautiful floats made each year are a testament to these leaders work, there chemistry and passion to Rocklin High School.
