From October 4 to October 9, RHS students built their class floats. Each of the four floats were in different locations in order to hide them from students in other classes. The final products would be revealed on the day of the Homecoming football game.
The juniors worked at junior Whitney Seacrist’s house on the driveway. Their theme was the Disney movie Coco. Junior Class Officer Parker Thompson “helped plan the floats” with the other class officers before starting construction.
Junior Samantha Benkosky helped build her float “for an hour and a half” on Sunday, October 5. She appeared to work again that Tuesday and Wednesday.
Thompson worked full-time on all days. “I’ve been here from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends, and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays,” he said.
Two juniors, Kaylee Biagoni and Thomas Medeiros, worked on their floats for the first time in high school on Tuesday. They appeared again for the rest of the days.
Most of the progress was made on the weekends. “The doors [on our float] weren’t up when I came on Sunday,” Benkosky said. “[The float] looked so much better than when we first got here,” Biagoni said after she worked on the float on Wednesday.
The juniors were proud of themselves after they finished building their float on Thursday. Medeiros felt that he “contributed very much” to building the float.
The best part of the week for Thompson was “meeting and bringing people together.” He enjoyed cooperating with other students each day. “I like how I can get people out of their shell to rock once more,” he said.
