Whether the thought of school starting thrills you or not, we can all be excited that fall sports are finally back! The season is just around the corner for football, flag football, and cheer. Teams have been working hard at practices, building chemistry, and preparing for what’s shaping up to be an exciting season.
Incoming senior and football player Josiah Andrews shared some insight on how the team has been coming together. “I think our teammates are getting good bonds, [we’re] really close.” With the first game scheduled for August 22nd against the Turlock Bulldogs, the football team has been focusing on perfecting their defense to be game-ready. “We lost a lot of players from last year, but we got a lot of young players coming up, so I think we’re just going to have to stick with it,” said Andrews. With last year’s seniors gone, this season will be a big test for the new lineup, but hopes are high. Andrews said the goal is “going back to sections, and then maybe even a state run.”
The team won’t be alone on the field, though. The cheer team has been hard at work all summer to bring the energy and school pride. Incoming junior cheerleader Piper Crews said summer training has been going great, “We had camp and it was a lot of fun. We are progressing a lot, pretty quickly.” The cheer team is also focused on being more spirited than ever before, with Crews adding they’re aiming to be “more school spirited” this year.
Meanwhile, Rocklin’s flag football program is entering its third year, and the excitement is real. The team held five practices throughout July, but tryouts officially began today, August 4th. Head coach Mr. Spears, who has been with the program since the beginning, said, “[Tryouts] went really good. I was really impressed with our freshmen coming in, we got a good group of people. Our upperclassmen are really good, so I’m really excited about our season.” With a brand new offense, defense, and rule updates introduced over the summer, players have been adjusting, but Spears’ focus remains steady. “My first goal all the time is to make sure that we continue to build our program.”
As the 2025–26 school year approaches, there’s a lot to look forward to in the world of Rocklin High sports. The athletes have been grinding all summer, and the coaches have been providing strong leadership to get everyone ready. It’s shaping up to be a great season – make sure to show up and show your school spirit!
