On May 16, the Rocklin varsity softball team shut out Inderkum 10–0 in the quarterfinals of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs, ending the game by mercy rule in just five innings. The win marks Rocklin’s second straight postseason game decided by mercy rule, following their 22–0 Blowout in the first round Vs. Golden Valley.
Pitcher Payton Pryor was dominant in the circle, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out eight in a near-perfect performance. “It feels great, but honestly, I couldn’t do it without all the runs we’re getting,” Pryor said. “Just knowing my team has my back it means everything.”
The Thunder’s offense continued to roll, capped off by a walk-off hit from Savannah Lorenzini to seal the victory. “It’s pretty cool, but the only reason I was able to get there is because of our team hitting,” Lorenzini said. “We’re super close, and we just pass the bat and keep going.”
With confidence high and chemistry strong, Rocklin now looks ahead to a semifinal matchup against No. 4 seed Vacaville. Both players expressed belief that this team has what it takes to go the distance. “Our goal is to make it to sections and state,” Lorenzini said. “One more game at a time.”
