Every Tuesday, you can find fresh produce, bakery items, and flowers for sale at the Placer Grown farmers market in the Fountains on Galleria Blvd. From 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., it is open to enjoy locally grown food and a strong sense of community.
On Tuesday, July 9, I went to the local farmers market with my friend Megan Williamson, a Rocklin High School student. We spent the morning at the farmers market, seeing various foods and people.
“By buying at the farmers market I am helping the local farmers’ businesses and in return, I am getting healthy and fresh produce”
Williamson said, “It was a very calm, but fun, way to start the morning. There were lots of healthy food options and all of the workers were super nice.”
The farmers market offered a different environment compared to a grocery store.
“It was cool to see people from all over the area come together at this small market and all have a great time,” Williamson said.
Williamson expressed a preference for the farmers market over a grocery store, citing benefits such as supporting small businesses and obtaining fresh produce.
“By buying at the farmers market I am helping the local farmers’ businesses and in return, I am getting healthy and fresh produce,” she said.
Deborah Arrighini from Gina Marie’s Custom Desserts sells baked goods at Placer Grown farmers market. This business is around 10 years old, it is located in Auburn, Calif., and they just started selling at farmers markets about two years ago.
Arrighini said she enjoys selling at farmers markets because “there is a great variety of people, who can get a taste of all different kinds of foods.”
Arrighini said locally grown foods have benefits. “The quality of the food here is better than in grocery stores since most of it is grown naturally without chemicals,” she said.
According to the National Farmers Market Coalition, buying food from the farmers market is a healthier option and is more sustainable for the environment.
Buying from farmers markets is an easy way to create a more sustainable life for yourself and others, all while getting quality produce in town.
