Recently, the Nintendo Switch 2 trailer was unveiled to the gaming community. In the trailer, the original Nintendo Switch is shown going through many redesigns, including new features. While there may be many new physical features for the Switch 2, the final product will just remain a small upgrade to the Switch 1.
While nobody except Nintendo knows the cost of the Nintendo Switch 2, many industry analysts agree on the same number: $400. That is $100 more than the current cost of the Switch 1, and $50 more than the Switch 1 OLED, the best version of the Switch 1.
Because the Switch 2 will have different controllers, Switch 1 controllers will not be compatible with the Switch 2. While most Switch 1 games will be compatible with the Switch 2, the only benefits are a bigger screen and better controllers. Those features are not worth paying $400 for.
The bottom line is that buying a Switch 2 would be fine if it is the first Switch of any kind for someone to buy. But for someone who already has a Switch 1, getting the new console would be unnecessary. The only way for the Switch 2 to be worth the $400 would be to allow a trade between the two consoles: get a Switch 2, transfer all data from the Switch 1, and trade the Switch 1 for the Switch 2 for a much lower price.
