Every year, Destiny Church hosts a Celebrate America event at Twin Oaks Park the weekend before Independence Day. People come from all over Placer County to celebrate with music, food, friends, and fireworks. This year’s festivities began around 6:00 p.m. and went on until around 10:30 p.m. It’s an event that patrons look forward to every year because of the grand fireworks show.
“This has been a family tradition for a while now,” said RHS senior Elisha Boyd. “Everyone is themselves and very caring and kind.”
Celebrate America is also famous for the concerts it holds. There was a band that started with popular country music and songs that gave off that American vibe. When the fireworks were about to start, a speaker came up to talk about how lucky we are to be able to live in this country. There was a sea of red, white, and blue to show off the American colors. Then came the big fireworks show which lit up the skies with colorful, fun fireworks.
Evan Keeney, a junior at Rocklin High School, said this event brings out the best in people. It “shows how much everyone is proud to be an American,” she said.
Every year, there is live music, food trucks everywhere, and a military flyover. It is a fast-paced environment with a crowd of over 1000 people, but many are there for one reason: the sense of community.
People come with family and friends to enjoy a night filled with laughter and fun. The event falls in the middle of summer, so it is a way for school friends who may have not seen each other in a while to reconnect.
Samantha Wilson, a junior at Del Oro High School, said, “It really brings unity to everyone and their country.”
