It’s that time of the year again; the seasons are changing and so are the sports. Basketball is categorized as a winter activity, and after a long hiatus, the athletes are ready to get back on the court.

Senior and captain of the girls varsity basketball team, Sydney O’Rourke is looking forward to returning to the sport.

“I’m sad that this is my last season, but I’m excited to have a new start next year. It will be interesting to see where this season takes us and how we work as a team,” Sydney says.

Throughout the season, there will definitely be some stand out games to prepare for. Cross-town rival school, Whitney, is the most prominent of all.

“This is my last year playing against Whitney, so I really hope we can win. It’ll be a good way to end off the four years of rivalry I’ve experienced,” Sydney adds.

Varsity basketball competes against Whitney on December 19th, while the JV and freshman teams suit up on December 20th.

The boys team is preparing for the season to begin as well. Cory Gohl, junior, has missed being on the court and is enthusiastic about the next few months.

“This season should be fun. The team works well together and we are all ready to start playing again,” Cory states.

Boys varsity coach Mr. Steve Taylor has high hopes for this season.

“We have a talented set of boys this year. I’m excited to see how the team gels and plays during the season. I believe we’ll be pretty successful,” says Coach Taylor.

Both girls and boys teams have tournaments this weekend. Boys varsity and junior varsity play at Rocklin, varsity playing Wednesday through Saturday, JV playing Thursday through Saturday. Boys freshman competes at Center Thursday through Saturday, girls varsity at Placer Thursday through Saturday, and girls JV at River City Thursday through Saturday.
