This morning, the Rocklin Track and Field team traveled to Rancho Cordova for the PR Invitational. With the hopes of a new personal record, our athletes ran, jumped, and threw at new levels and their efforts did not disappoint. The sunny weather brought excitement and energy to the track and many of our athletes were rewarded for their personal records by receiving medals that showcased their talents. However, varsity sprinter Brody Saunders, faced struggles at the start of his 100 meter race, and he was sadly disqualified. This did not stop him from finishing second in the 400 meter race with a time of 51.84.
In the 300 meter hurdles race, freshman Emelynn Miller had an outstanding personal record with a time of 53.79. She said that, “I’m getting more comfortable with pushing myself, rather than wanting to push myself and getting scared and dipping out right before the hurdle.” And she continued to explain, “[I don’t] view it as an obstacle, but rather as part of the race.” Her teammate, Jenna Alhindi also added her advice which was, “just knowing that you’re one with the hurdle.” Miller continued by saying that her big goal was to, “…do well at finals and three step the whole race, and hopefully PR.” Both hurdlers not only showed their dedication and determination during their races today, but they also showed incredible promise for the next years of the RHS Track and Field team.
