In 2019, the world was introduced to a new interpretation of the beloved, “Joker” from the DC Comic Books, which fans adored because it brought new light to an uncovered topic regarding his background. The movie ultimately became very successful at the box office and was a dark and gritty movie where Joaquin Phoenix delivered an incredible performance as Arthur Fleck/Joker. This all set up the sequel, Joker: Foile a Duex to be highly anticipated. Fans were in turn, extremely underwhelmed and disappointed. Joker: Foile a Duex follows Arthur Flex’s journey through his court case for the murder of five people which is ultimately a highlight of the movie.
Most scenes where they delved into the background and mind of Joker were incredible. It dove deep into the character’s psyche and the chaos that ensued to make him who he became. Although these parts are praised online, the main discourse of the movie is the musical element of the film. Though beautiful, the musical aspects kill the pacing and story of the movie. One great takeaway from the film was including Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotte (Lady Gaga) as “Harley Quinn” which made all musical aspects watchable and added an extra layer to the depth of Joker which the film needed.
Overall, this reviewer believes, Joker: Foile a Duex is an interesting watch that adds onto the world of the first film but ultimately lacks the elements of its predecessor that made it successful. I give Joker: Foile a Duex a underwhelming 3 out of 5 stars.
