Rocklin High School’s Art III class are hard at work painting the mural in the amphitheater for homecoming week. Every year, RHS’ Art III class is tasked with painting the year’s theme on the amphitheater steps.
The work required to paint the murals isn’t easy. Art teacher Auna Willert said, “We start with a lot of planning and receive the homecoming theme from Mr. Thompson and then as a whole class, we brainstorm potential ideas.” After selecting an idea, they sketch the layout and then chalk the final version onto the amphitheater steps.
Renee Roundtree, a sophomore at RHS, helped lead Art III to ensure the painting process went smoothly. “It was a really great experience and I think we as a class grew a lot from it but it was definitely a bit stressful, kind of taking into consideration how the school will feel about it and trying to make sure that it looks good,” Roundtree said.
Hadley Jantz, a junior at RHS, assisted in painting the mural. “I actually enjoy it. I think it’s a lot of pressure but it’s also on the whole class so it’s not just one person doing it all,” she said.
“I think when I walk away from this whole thing is just how excited I am about this group of art students and what a phenomenal job they did,” Ms. Willert said.
