Putting on deodorant in the morning is a choice we make. This choice should be a requirement, just like putting on clothes. Some of us take two seconds to get ready and others take twenty minutes, but fashion trends come and go. Rocklin High School students were asked about what trends they are loving. They shared that it can be difficult to keep up with what is popular at the moment, but it’s all about everyones’ own taste.
Trends seem to change every couple of weeks, because of this, stereotypes are given at first glance. This can be hard to keep up with if you care about your image. Some trends include clean girl aesthetic, Adidas comeback, thrifting, and even bows. Talking with some students about what trends they want to see come back and what’s their favorite trending piece.
Senior Grace Wong is loving bows right now, in her hair, shoes, bags, almost everything. Doc Martens and jorts also are in some of her repeat fits. She says she knows her style varies, but having some basic things to layer and dress up are her first tips to have a style you love, “Small accessories do make a big difference”. She recommends shopping at boutiques or finding one small place out of town to explore, “Going to a shop on vacation is always a fun find because you never know what you’ll find”. Dressing for the occasion helps narrow down the multiple different styles to choose from, “Outside means rustic, school days could be sportyish or clean girl”.
Understanding the clean girl aesthetic varies on the approach but consists of some key ideas. Wong shares this image as very girly and an easy basic image. Dressing up with some simple jewelry, not too much product in hair or makeup, and keeping up with hygiene are all steps to mastery of the clean girl aesthetic. On her silver days being more active lets her wear more athletic breathable clothes, whereas on blue days she can have fun dressing in any style she feels. “Small accessories do make a big difference”.
Senior Owen Thomas wants to see the ushanka hats come back for fall and winter, “They go with anything and add to a fit”. He’s also loving the Adidas comeback, “I was wearing Adidas as a kid, and so I’m loving all the sambas and superstars”. His favorite trending piece is “[His] thrift jnco jorts that was [his] favorite find”. He recommends going out of your comfort zone with some headphones and hitting the thrift. Junior Maddie Huff loves rhinestones with the 90s-2000s look. In pants and shirts, “the whole decade of fashion is so fun to style”. Style depending on how she feels makes her comfortable and happy, “Figuring out [her] style helped with [her] own self-confidence”.
Finding inspiration comes from many places, it’s a way to find your own personal style. Wong said, “I’ve realized that my style doesn’t have to match everyone”. Branching out and finding what works for you changes the game. Wong says, “I’d rather stand out than be the same and I feel like I can put my personality into my style”. Thomas agreed by saying, “Having a closet full of clothes you enjoy” is what makes the difference. He recommends depop, tiktok, or instagram to find some ideas.
Grace explains where her inspiration comes from saying Pinterest helps a lot and finding an influencer to adapt to her personal style gives her ideas.. Thomas says that the easiest way to help your style grow is to “hit the thrift.” Learning to get away from stereotypes and pressure in style and extracurriculars can be challenging, but should one’s confidence and happiness be denied just because of stereotypes? Thomas disagrees, “That’s totally ridiculous. Just go out and start changing it”.
