First Twins to Win a Super Bowl

Twins play in the 2019 Super bowl

The Super Bowl is continuously the most watched event in America and is a story in itself, but the real stories lay underneath the surface of the game. History was made when identical twins Jason and Devin McCourty were the first set of twins to play in a Super Bowl. Both are starters on the New England Patriots defensive perimeter, Jason playing left corner, and Devin at free safety.

Currently there are only three sets of twins in the National Football League, two of those play for the Patriots. The other pair of twins on the Patriots, are fraternal. Cody and Jacob Hollister play on the offensive side of the ball, Cody plays wide-receiver while Jacob plays tight-end. Cody was on the practice squad, while Jacob made the 53 man roster.

Devin McCourty has spent his entire nine season career in New England, winning three total Super Bowls and making the second team all pro squad three times. Jason spent eight of his 10 season in Tennessee, before signing with Cleveland for the 2017-18 season. After Cleveland went 0-16, Jason signed with New England for his tenth season.

Jason made arguably the most important play of the game when Devin and teammate, Stephon Gilmore, blew coverage and let the ex-Patriot, Brandin Cooks, free on a deep post route. Jason ran more than 20 yards in under two seconds to break up, what would have been, a game defining touchdown pass.

Both had very successful seasons, with almost ironically identical stats. Jason had 54 solo tackles and 16 assisted, while Devin had 59 and 23. Devin and Jason had one interception and a fumble recovery a piece. Hopefully the twins continue to do well and thrive together in red, white and blue.
