Faculty Follies Approaches
With the second semester in full swing, there are basketball games every week, runaway week was a success and many other on campus activities are going strong. The new year brings about another important campus tradition: Faculty Follies.
Faculty Follies is a tradition started by the teachers to raise money for scholarships. Each year the Rocklin High School staff puts together a band of amusing and somewhat embarrassing skits.
From dressing up like Beyonce and singing single ladies to reenacting scenes from the hunger games, the event has grown and become a way for students to see their teachers in a non academic way outside the classroom.
“It shows students that us teachers are human and somewhat ‘skilled’ in other ways than they expect” says Mr. Eckenberg.
The one night show has become an on campus sensation and has grown tremendously. Last year’s show raised over $2,500 for scholarships.
While raising money for scholarships is the main purpose of the show, both the teachers and students find the event rewarding in different ways.
“Its a good cause, raising money for scholarships but it also allows the staff to be looked at in a different light; were not always just nerds” says Mr. Kirk.
Many students enjoy the event because of the fun filled skits that allow the staff to express themselves in more spontaneous and creative ways.
Sophomore Sam Schoultz adds, “It shows who the teachers really are when they don’t have to follow rules or be so strict. It allows them to come out of their shell and I think its a great tradition.”
The Faculty Follies is this Thursday in the theater at 7pm and tickets are already selling in the storm cellar.
“This year will be a lot of fun. Its more, lets say, feminine than last years skit” says Mr. Underwood
The staff hopes to raise even more money than last year and has been working hard to make this years Faculty Follies a successful one. There are a lot of fun and creative skits in store and the staff is expecting a big turnout.
