An Electric Christmas
94.7’s annual Electric Christmas show was on December 10th at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento
Though the crowds weren’t at their max, Electric Christmas was fantastic. Vance Joy, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Young the Giant blew the crowd away. Bush, Joywave, and Big Data were a disappointment, though. Joywave and Big Data performed many songs, but they each only played one good one. I left before Bush started so I can’t have an opinion on their performance.
Joywave performed first and the energy at Sleep Train Arena was not good. Not very many people were singing or dancing along. Instead, people were shouting over the band to talk to their friends or playing on their phones. Only when the band played their last song, their most popular, did people pay attention to them.
Big Data came out next. The same thing that happened to Joywave happened to Big Data. The only difference is that the energy for Big Data was a little better. Their last song was Dangerous, and they brought out the lead singer of Joywave to perform the song with them. Everybody was really into it and it was cool to hear everybody belting the song.
Then came Vance Joy. Oh my sweet goodness, he was AMAZING! Sadly, he only played three songs. Unlike the previous bands, all of the songs he performed were awesome. He, of course, played Riptide, which was so amazing, words can’t even describe it! Something went wrong with his ukelele right when we was about to play, so while it was getting fixed, he talked to us in the crowd and it was cool.
Fitz and the Tantrums followed him. If you have never been to one of their concerts, it is a must. They not only sing and dance on stage, but their crowd interaction is fun as well. Michael Fitzpatrick, one of the main singers, put out so much energy that it kept us singing and dancing the whole time. He also told us to do certain things, and because of how much heart he was putting into it, everyone listened and matched the energy the band was putting out. All their songs were great. Sadly, they couldn’t keep playing because of time restrictions, but the following band was great too.
Young the Giant made sure to keep the energy up after Fitz and the Tantrums left. He also made sure to keep the good music coming. He also said how he liked playing at Sleep Train Arena since he grew up in Irvine, California.
During his set, he played Cough Syrup and Mind Over Matter, which was amazing! He was really into his music, putting everything he had into each song. This showed through the songs.
I left right after they performed, so I am not sure how Bush did. Overall, the concert was amazing and I am so glad I went. I definitely recommend going next year if you get the chance to.
