Football Looks to Excel in First Round of Playoffs

With eight wins, seven of which were near blowouts, and two losses, both of which heartbreaks, Rocklin High School football boasts a successful regular season record so far. The thunder is hopeful to continue this triumph in playoffs.

This Friday, the Thunder will face the Del Campo Cougars for the second time this season. Last time they played each other the Thunder beat the Cougars 38-14. Del Campo with a record of 7-3, has only lost to Rocklin, Cosumnes Oaks, and Antelope.

“Once it hits 7 and the ball is kicked off, those numbers don’t mean anything,” Coach Adams explains about Del Campo’s record and Rocklin’s controversial seed in playoffs.

“Every game has it’s own life with different players and matchups. Both teams are missing quality athletes which will change the dynamic of the upcoming game,” Coach Adams said.

In the earlier game against Del Campo, junior running back Evyn Holtz injured his shoulder. And has just recovered from an ongoing ankle injury, making this his first game back.

“Del Campo being the team who injured my shoulder makes me more motivated to beat them, and after taking a week off I feel healthy and my body has fully recovered,” said Holtz.

Adams observes Evyn and his comeback as motivation for him to come out strong and set the tempo by running the ball.

“We need to play with more emotion and passion like we did in the beginning of the season, I feel like after Folsom we started to lose that and we need to get that back in order to win” adds Evyn.

If the Thunder advance they will play the winner of the St. Mary’s vs. River Valley game in second round playoffs on November 21.
