“American Horror Story: Freak Show” Is Dark and Twisted
Even though Halloween is over, one horror story still lurks about.
American Horror Story has been a growing obsession among viewers nationwide. This Golden Globe nominated series has been airing since 2011, with its first season “Murder House.” After 3 previous seasons, a fourth one has been recently introduced, titled “Freak Show”.
One aspect of American Horror Story that makes it unlike any other is that it is an anthology series. Every season has a different plot with the same actors who play different characters.
The writers of this show never fail to come up with interesting and original ideas for their show. The first season involved a haunted house;the second season, “Asylum” entangled the audience in the scenario of being unjustly institutionalized; and “Coven” includes witchcraft.
To add on to the the troubles of this series, the fourth season is about a mad killer clown on the loose, Twisty. Viewers had just discovered that he was a misfit clown and is kidnapping children from the “bad society” and taking them to his secret hideout and performing sickening tricks for the kids’ “amusement”.
This fourth season gives inside views on each of the freaks’ stories and how they came to be who they are today. With characters ranging from siamese twins to a bearded lady to a man with “lobster hands”, these characters will appear tough inside and out.
In the past four episodes, fans have seen the siamese twins get kidnapped by the headmistress of the freak show, who has an aspiring dream of becoming a performer beyond the show. There was also the death of a beloved freak, Meep, after being accused for a murder he did not commit.
There are mixed feelings about American Horror Story among the students at Rocklin. Sophomore Alyssa James tried to get in the loop with the fan base, but did not like the language and how sexual it was, saying, “It’s just really uncomfortable for me, so I couldn’t watch it.”
With that being said, it’s apparent that the show does not hold back, a trait that Hector Garcia really admires. Hector has been an active viewer since the very first episode of season one in 2011. Compared to other tv series, American Horror Story takes risks with their risque episodes, and because of it, Hector feels as if “[he’s] watching a movie every time I watch it.”
Later in the season, Jimmy Darling finally got behind the antics of Twisty the clown, and after revealing him, became the hero of the town. This is a great opportunity for the freak show to have its much needed comeback.
Meanwhile we watched as the spoiled son, Dandy, is now sprouting his craving for murder. We watch as he kills a few victims, with no doubt that there are more to come.
With more episodes to come, this show has captured America’s attention, and there is no doubt that this is one of the most extraordinary shows we have seen yet.
