Marvel Is Back With Another Announcement
Perhaps the most anticipated movie of 2015, Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, was not supposed to drop its trailer until after this week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode. However, things don’t always go as planned, and the trailer leaked online on October 21, and was officially released on the 22nd of October.
The trailer, in keeping with Joss Whedon’s propensity to destroy everything you’ve ever loved, showcases death and destruction, interspersed with scenes of the Avengers in positions of defeat and desperation. Among these scenes is a shot of Captain America’s nearly indestructible shield broken in half.
Following the record-breaking release of the trailer (it got the most views online of any Marvel movie ever), Marvel released more footage of Avengers 2 following the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D episode, which generated even more hype.
However, continually upping the hype for 2015’s most anticipated movie hasn’t been enough for Marvel. On October 28, Kevin Feige held court in Los Angeles, showing footage from Avengers 2 before dropping a bomb of epic proportions.
Feige revealed not one, not two, but nine new Marvel movies with definite release dates. Among them are such films as Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Several films were announced for heroes we’ve yet to see in film, such as Black Panther, the Inhumans, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange.
However, the true “super” of the announcements comes with the four movies that will bring their heroes crashing down: Thor: Ragnarok, Captain America: Civil War, and The Avengers: Infinity War parts One and Two. These films all are titled after key arcs in their comic book series. In each arc, heroes die. The Civil War arc, in fact, is a story in which every hero on Earth divides into two sides and fights a bloody civil war over privacy, an extremely timely story that pits Captain America against Iron Man.
All this information has been released in one short announcement, and is doubtlessly difficult for anyone to absorb. The most incredible fact about all of this new information is how it continues to excite, rather than overload the fans.
The most important thing following Marvel’s abusiveness regarding its fans is to keep them interested until these movies all come out. They will all surely be box-office smashes, but only if they can keep their audiences excited and hyped for the far-off movies they’ve announced. Considering that the first movie, the one that collects much of the hype, comes out on the first of May 2015, that job shouldn’t be too difficult.
All hands on deck for Avengers 2, after that Marvel will set sail even further into the realm of super-movie dominance.
