Frankenstein’s monster, a creature born from ambition and unchecked power comes to life through the pages of Mary Shelley’s novel. At its core the book highlights humanity’s desire to push boundaries and the consequences that follow when power is abused rather than understood.

The scientist Victor Frankenstein’s ambition prompts deeper questions about responsibility, power and human limits.
Even though Frankenstein was written over 200 years ago, its themes remain relevant today. Beneath the surface level horror story lies a complex exploration of responsibility and isolation, which helps explain why the novel has remained a staple in literature classrooms for generations.
While many people are familiar with Frankenstein through pop culture and Halloween, the novel presents a very different portrayal of the characters. “The monster in a lot of media is depicted as..very brutish..but he’s very intelligent,” said RHS senior Omar Mohammed. I was left shocked at the end of the book by the twists and turns the story took. Frankenstein gives a deeper meaning than I initially expected, this is a book I will recommend to anyone because of the gothic beauty and message it gives. “Its a valuable book. I feel like I gained something from it,” said Mohammed. I have learned a lot from this novel because it has made me dive into how other people’s lives can be unfair and how we should mistreat someone because of appearance.
Although Frankenstein is fiction it remains my favorite book, ranking as a 4.5 out of 5 stars. The book was confusing and somewhat slow but when I put everything together it easily became my favorite book of the year.
