On February 25th, your Rocklin High Thunder tore through the Woodcreek Timberwolves with the final score being 67-50. It was an outstanding performance, but the defense ultimately led the way to the victory. Senior John High said, “It feels pretty good, last year we cut it short we lost in the semi-final, it feels good to come back and win the semi-finals and know that we’re going to Golden 1 this year.” It was a one-sided game as Rocklin got off to a quick start and never looked back, Rocklin held Woodcreek to just 18 points in the 1st half. Senior Blaine Stephan said the key to their success was “definitely our defense, we shut down their best guys and that really led our offense to do better as well.” As usual, Senior Mark Lavrenov performed remarkably and was unstoppable in the paint. The Timberwolves had no answer for the Thunder’s fast-paced offense and stonewall defense.
The Thunder will head to the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Thursday, February 27th, to face Jesuit, who has a record of 22-8. Rocklin has already faced Jesuit twice earlier in the regular season with Jesuit winning the first matchup and Rocklin winning the second. Last year, Rocklin fell short in the semi-final. Junior Connor Bow said, “We had revenge in our eyes, we wanted this game ever since Freshman year, ever since we stepped in this gym we’ve always wanted it.” It will be their 3rd time meeting this season, a tiebreaker for the 2 teams in the Section Championship. Junior Josiah Andrews said, “We gotta be ready to work and play hard against them because they play hard and come out fast, strong, and physical. We just gotta be ready to go out there and work.” It’s been an amazing season for the Thunder so far and they look forward to keeping it going and trying to bring home a banner for their school!
