On Feb. 21, the Rocklin Thunder took on the 18-11 Sacramento Dragons in the second round of the Division II Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. It was a hard-fought game, with both teams battling back and forth while the Rocklin crowd, both the cheer team and parents, showed up to support the boys. The Dragons played tough defense, never letting Rocklin pull away. But midway through the third quarter, the momentum shifted. Senior Ely Willis “got the steal,” took it down the court, and “slammed it” in for a huge dunk, said Josiah Andrews. That play gave Rocklin the spark it needed to hold on for a narrow win and move on to the next round.
Up next, the Thunder will face 24-6 Woodcreek on Feb. 25. Woodcreek has been on a roll this season, making this a can’t-miss game. Andrews said the team feels good but knows they “just got to get back to work” and practice hard to be ready. A win against Woodcreek would send Rocklin to the Golden 1 Center to play for the section title.
