On November 15th, the Rocklin High Thunder stormed into the playoffs with a resounding 49-14 victory over the Elk Grove Thundering Herd. It was a game defined by explosive plays, defensive dominance, and the unwavering energy of a team determined to make it deep in their postseason run.
Alex Durham got things started with an early touchdown in the first quarter setting the tone for the Thunder’s strong start. After which Chase Baker made his presence felt on defense, scooping up a fumble and returning it for a touchdown. “I think the football gods blessed me with a little free touchdown this week,” Baker said after the game. “I was coming off the dude fumbling the ball, and I thought, ‘I gotta go eat,’ so I picked it up and I ran.”
The night also featured a dazzling punt return touchdown from Josiah Andrews, electrifying the Thunder faithful in the stands. The Thunder’s defense held firm against Elk Grove’s attempts to fight back, while the offense continued to pile on points with relentless energy.
For seniors like Baker, the playoff atmosphere added extra weight to the win. “It’s awesome, but it’s also a situation where, if you lose, you’re done for the season,” Baker shared. “Most of these guys on our team have a next year, but us seniors don’t. Some of us aren’t going to get the opportunity to play at the next level, so this is it for football for us. It’s win or die.”
With the victory, the Thunder advance to face the Manteca Bisons next week at home. Rocklin looks to build on their momentum and extend their playoff journey. As the Thunder prepare for the next challenge, they do so with a focus and determination that has defined their season.
Good luck to the Thunder as they look to light up the scoreboard again and continue their pursuit of playoff glory!
