On October 4th, the Rocklin Thunder Girls Flag Football team was victorious against the Whitney Wildcats with a final score of 19-6, their record shooting up to 12-7. With an electric performance from Skylar Linehan, racking up 13 receptions, 150 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Robyn Nguyen also had an impressive passing performance with 224 passing yards and 3 touchdowns, all going to Linehan. The girls team also played exceptional defense, limiting the Wildcats to six points. The Thunder’s last meeting with the Wildcats ended with a 24-14 loss, this motivated them to play exceptionally well. Whitney is now on a 3 game losing streak, meanwhile Rocklin is on a roll winning 8 of the previous 9 games.
This is the first time the team experienced an intense amount of pressure like this, playing in front of a sold out Quarry Bowl crowd. Nguyen said, “It was definitely a new experience. I don’t think I’ve ever played in front of that many people, but I don’t think anything changed, mindset wise, I don’t think I played any differently than I would in front of ten people.” Nguyen and the rest of the team including the coaches were unfazed by the atmospheric change, they took the pressure very well and expected to win no matter the circumstances.
