Rocklin High School’s symphony orchestra held its first concert of the year Wednesday. The performance brought together instruments from RHS’ band and orchestra classes in performances of a wide range of classical masterpieces including movements from Dvořák’s “New World Symphony” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 7.”
“We’ve never really combined an ensemble for that, so that’s our objective with this concert,” said senior Alex Lin, who plays the oboe. In the past, RHS wind and string ensembles had mostly performed separately. Trombone player Aryavrat Mishra said he has friends in many different ensembles and enjoyed the opportunity to play together with them all.
This is the second year of the symphony concert at RHS.
“We definitely have some really big improvements from last year,” said viola player and section leader Gargi Jejurikar.
Upright bass player Quinn Willick agreed that the performance went well.
Music teacher Jeffrey Hayman said he plans to make the concert an annual event.
