It was overcast, rain threatening to pour down at any moment. The two teams pitted against each other are arch-rivals. This means a lot to them because it’s a rivalry game. School pride is at stake. Many of the players went to school together at Granite Oaks Middle School, which only heightened the desire to win. The JV Lacrosse teams were ready to settle it on the field for the last game of the year.
The game was at first a stalemate with neither team scoring. That was until Whitney got the first shot that scored. It was a wake-up call for the Rocklin players to bring it home. Zach Clarke, starter faceoff on the Lacrosse team, said their plan for winning was ”just planning to win by just executing fundamentals. Clearly not trying to over commit or do anything crazy”. From there it was a tug of war, with both sides scoring as time went on. By the 4th quarter, Rocklin was in the lead, but Whitney was hot on their trail. Tensions were even stronger from the desire to prevail.
“I’m just really proud of my boys”
Though, in the end, Rocklin High brought home the win with a 7-6 victory over Whitney. Players for Rocklin were ecstatic, coming together to celebrate their victory in the final game of the season. Pride and contentment filled both the players and their supporters on the sidelines. Trenton Sublett, captain of the Lacrosse team, said “I’m just really proud of my boys”. All came together to show respect and appreciation for the tough match that both teams played. When it all was over, Rocklin walked away with pride knowing that they had just won the final, rival game of the season.
