Volleyball’s Strong Start

Girls varsity volleyball goes head first into the season

The volleyball season has come fast, and the RHS varsity girls are ready. The team started off the season with four straight wins, winning three sets to none for three of these matches.

Senior Taylor Melchiori, one of the team’s setters, says “Our record is pretty good right now. We’ve only lost one game on the road, and it wasn’t our best match as far as communicating and adjusting. I think if we fix that we’ll be good.”

This past labor day weekend, the team made the trip up to Reno for the High Sierra Invitational tournament. They had a solid weekend, going 4-3 against tough teams from a wide area.

“We did really good the second day in the first pool. We went 2-0, and we beat Christian Brothers and Cosumnes Oaks who are pretty good teams.”

With league play starting up next Thursday, the girls need to become more ready than ever.

Taylor explains “We’re confident coming in to league because we beat St. Francis, and St. Francis beat Oakridge who is a top team in our league. We’re looking good.”

“So far the season has been great. We are really coming together as a team and adjusting to our opponents strengths. And the chemistry on the team is good as well. We all get along and go well together as a team. I think we’re having fun.”

Gracie Adams, a junior, agrees as she says “The season has been good, we’re really connecting. I think we have a pretty good chance of at least getting close to winning the SFL.”

Be sure to stay tuned to Thunder girls’ volleyball because their season is likely to be an exciting one.
