New School Year, New Set of Rules

Expectations for Senior Year Take a Turn

One of the main reasons teenagers look forward to their senior year of high school is having more freedom. With the majority of the senior class being 18 years old, they expect to be treated as adults; which means they expect the freedom that comes along with adulthood.

Although technically adults, 18 year old students still have to follow the rules and regulations just like everyone else on this campus; this includes when they can and cannot leave campus.

“Students who are 18 years of age or older are permitted to sign themselves out of school and handle their attendance needs. We do have a process in place in which a meeting must be held with the student, their parents, and their Assistant Principal in order to discuss and approve this action,” said Assistant Principal, Mr. Pappas.

Although they cannot sign themselves out with the click of a pen, seniors do have a couple other things they can look forward to while entering their final year.

“There are some options available to seniors which are a privilege that can be earned.  Many students have the opportunity to take a reduced course load when they are on track to meet their graduation requirements.  Additionally, seniors have a specific section of the parking lot designated for them,” said Pappas.

With the 2017-2018 school year rapidly coming to an end, the current junior class anxiously prepares for their last year at Rocklin High.

“I’m really excited to be a senior next year because it means we’re finally almost done with school, besides college, and we have less classes which will be good; I’ll have time to get a job and start saving for college,” said junior Lauren Gerber.

After the completion of nearly three years at Rocklin High, the soon-to-be seniors prepare themselves for the end of their journey here, and the beginning of their life in the real world.
