The Sun Sets on Paradise Pier
Paradise Pier in Disney’s California Adventure is To Be permanently altered
November 16, 2017
First Soarin’ Over California, then Tower of Terror and now Paradise Pier. In the summer of 2018, more huge changes are to come for the theme park and it’s starting to seem like different is the new normal.
Paradise Pier, the fun-in-the-sun seaside-themed land in California Adventure, is being transformed into Pixar Pier. This new theme will introduce new attractions based around beloved Disney Pixar movies, as well as changing current attractions to incorporate the new theme.
The first change is to the park’s 120 foot vertical loop roller coaster, California Screamin’. This attraction will still be a roller coaster-type ride, but under a different name and concept. The new ride, called the Incredicoaster, is based on the Pixar movie “The Incredibles.” According to Disneyparks.com, “This new experience will feature a mid-century-modern-style loading area, new character moments and a new look for the ride vehicles.”
Along with this change, there will be four new neighborhoods introduced throughout the pier. With the Incredicoaster and Incredibles being the first neighborhood, the second is a “Toy Story” inspired neighborhood placed in the same location as the current 4D shooting ride “Toy Story Midway Mania.”
On the western side of the boardwalk, an “Inside Out” themed land will open up to visitors. A new family-friendly Inside Out attraction will open here on a later date.
The fourth land has less of a specific theme, but is more dedicated to many different pixar stories. With this land comes changes to Mickey’s Fun Wheel, the massive ferris wheel that looms over the soon to be Pixar Pier. But don’t freak out, the iconic face of Mickey Mouse on the fun wheel will remain looking out on Paradise Bay. The changes to the attraction will feature different Pixar characters on each of the 24 gondolas.
Next in this Pixar character neighborhood, the games of the boardwalk will be renovated to theme around Pixar characters.
But for those who can’t imagine California Adventure being deprived of its paradise theme, there is still a land for you. The remaining area of Paradise Pier, which includes attractions like Mickey’s Silly Symphony Swings, Goofy’s Sky School, and Ariel’s Undersea Adventure will become a new land called Paradise Park.
California Screamin’, Mickey’s Fun Wheel, and the games on the boardwalk will close on January 8. Look for the new Pier to open on April 13, 2018, during a limited time Pixar Fest celebration
Whether you like the changes or not, they are coming. In California Adventure during summer 2018 it will be a transformed place where Paradise Pier will be permanently Pixar.
