Another week in the rigorous SFL means another tough matchup. The Thunder face their toughest challenge of the season thus far as they prepare to take on the undefeated Folsom Bulldogs, ranked number 8 in the state and number 25 in the nation (according to Maxpreps.com). The Bulldogs are undoubtedly loaded on both sides of the ball, led by Junior Quarterback Kaiden Bennett and Wide Receiver Joseph Ngata.

But the Thunder will not flinch in the face of adversity, entering this contest with a record of 6-2, suffering only one loss in league. Anchored by a solid line on both sides of the ball and breakout play ability of Blayden Brown and Daniel Roberts, the Thunder are poised to strike and take down the Folsom juggernaut.

Many of the team’s big plays are also produced by starting Quarterback Cade Wyant, twin brother to Cole and son to Drew Wyant.

The name Wyant goes hand in hand with the word Quarterback, as two generations of the family have been and are currently Quarterbacks. Coach Drew Wyant, a past QB at Sac State, is the father to sons Cole and Cade Wyant, who currently play QB for our Rocklin Thunder. Coach Wyant undoubtedly has a strong connection with his boys, but the connection goes beyond the practice field, it plays a part in the games as well.

On Friday nights, Cade, the starting quarterback, looks to the sideline for his dad and his brother, standing side by side relaying the plays via hand signals to Cade. When the offense comes off the field, Cade and his father discuss what went down on the last drive, and reads and decisions he could make that could improve his quality of play. Coach Wyant is never referred to as “dad” on the football field by Cade, rather the term “coach”.

Cade has played well so far this season and it looks like he is following both his father’s advice, as well as in his footsteps. He has dismantled opposing defenses, having only thrown 3 interceptions on the season and has provided many electric plays already.

The Thunder will try to bring home another league win this week, and prepare to face a tough Granite Bay squad next week.
