Industry Icon Award – Hideo Kojima

And now all the announcements from the show. The world premiere of another Death Strandling trailer by Kojima productions whose founder, Hideo Kojima, is the winner of the Industry Icon Award and creator of the Metal Gear franchise. This will be directed along with Guillermo del Toro, who makes an appearance in the trailer. The game features actors Norman Reedus, known for his role as Daryl in AMC’s The Walking Dead, and Mads Mikkelsen, most known for being the villain in Casino Royale and Doctor Strange.

Next, Telltale announced a five-part Gardians of the Galaxy game with a teaser trailer that doesn’t reveal much. They also gave a sneak peek of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, the third instalment of their Walking Dead series.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild got a new trailer along with some gameplay footage. The game was already praised for it’s stunning design and color scheme, which the new trailer solidifies, but now with the gameplay it’s easy to see that the Zelda franchise is embracing newer combat elements that will help the franchise survive.

There was also a mix of gameplay and scenery shots of Mass Effect: Andromeda. The scenes seem to have some issues with syncing the speech with the animation, but it still has some beautiful scenery ready for the players to explore.

And finally Yacht Club Games is back with another beautiful NES styled Shovel Knight game, this time following Specter Knight in Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment. The trailer is full of returning characters and has wonderful music laid over. The game will be released in Spring of 2017.

Overall, the Video Game Awards was filled with honoring the achievements of the gaming community. “Most of the winners I’ve actually heard of and were kind of expected to win,” says Rocklin High School’s Darwin Pluta, a senior, from the morning broadcast. Even though these were expected wins, it seems the announced games have the same fate. The gaming community is anxiously waiting for these teased games to come out so they can play them for themselves.
