To close the cultural gaps of the people on our campus, celebrate our differences and learn more about the world, German Club, French Club and Fiesta Club hosted a celebration on Monday,  Dec. 12. The goal was to interact with different cultures and celebrate the holidays.

In an interview with junior Cinthya Jauregui, the president of Fiesta Club, she disclosed that it was German Club who came up with the idea of breaking down the language barrier between the different cultures, though German is not an official second language class offered at this school.

Because of the segregation of the different languages and cultures, being united for the upcoming holiday season is important to better understand each other.  These cultures are actually more similar than we think. They all originated in Europe, and they all celebrate Christmas, though in different ways, so it should be fun to unite in our similarities and at the same time celebrate our differences.

Cinthya also revealed, “We’re hoping to bring people from all walks of life and unite them with the English language, because we all know different languages, but English is where we have a common ground.”

Another reason this event was put together was because they wanted to bring attention to the fact that Mexico is not only country that speaks Spanish, and that many of the other South American countries also celebrate the different traditions of the upcoming holidays.

They brought German, French, Mexican, Peruvian and South American food to help understand the wider variety of the Spanish, French and German speaking cultures.
