Stand Up, Get Down

This Saturday, a new event takes Rocklin by storm

It can be hard, living in Rocklin, to find recreational activities outside of school. Especially activities that are exclusively for teenagers. However, a new event is arriving this Saturday Nov. 5.

Stand Up Get Down is a community event geared toward teens from around Placer County. It includes several workshops, an art gallery, a speed-debate competition and food trucks. Workshops available include graffiti painting, parkour and more. They’re each about 40 minutes long, free and available to anyone who’s interested.

After a couple hours of these events, a dance exclusively for teens, featuring DJ Lady Chair, will open up. The entire event will take place from 5-10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Rocklin Community Center.

Stand Up Get Down is organized by Ms. Natalie Pohley, co-founder of Auburn’s Hip Hop Congress. After dreaming up this event, she created a committee composed entirely of teenagers from around Placer County. They designed the debates, set up artwork displays, and planned workshops.

“Young people,” Pohley says, “need [this] space to share and just be who they are… We are excited to expose young people in Placer County to creative things they can learn and get involved in.”

Ultimately, if you’re looking for something creative and fun to do this weekend, Stand Up Get Down might just be the event for you. Featuring unique activities, art displays, a dance and food trucks, there’s going to be something for everyone!

If you’re interested in submitting artwork, the online form can be found here. All mediums are accepted.
