After 22 years of operation, fans are saying goodbye to one of the most popular attractions in Disney California Adventure: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. This year will be the last chance Tower of Terror enthusiasts have to enjoy this thriller before it closes for good in January 2017.

The iconic ride’s demise in 2017 is making way for a new ride, Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: BREAKOUT! The new Marvel movie inspired theme will open this upcoming summer. This ride will allow Disney to benefit from their deal with Marvel and attract a completely different crowd.

Die hard fans around the world have also already gone to social media to express their disappointment in Disney’s decision to turn a classic ride into what many consider to be a passing movie fad. On Twitter, tower supporters have banded together, trending #savethetower and #towerofterror. Anaheim locals in particular are having a hard time saying goodbye to a major part of their life.

“I used to live by Disneyland and after moving here I kept going back to visit. I’m mad that it’s closing because has always been my favorite rides.” said Kylie Sander, sophomore.

For students who have been visiting Disneyland all their lives with family and friends, the closing of the ride also means the end of lifelong traditions and memories at the Tower. Many feel that the ending of this attraction marks a new era that kids will grow up in.

Sophomore Ariana Hernandez said, “It’s such a well known ride that if it gets replaced young people will never get to experience the ride the way it was.”

Fortunately, the original ride will stay in operation this entire Halloween season and serve as the host of multiple special events including night time ride passes, live music, sit down food service and much more to end the Tower of Terror’s reign on a high note.
