Sam Larzen: A Freshman’s Experience

A Look into Rocklin High Through a Freshman’s Perspective.

Rebecca Michael

Everyone remembers being a freshman. From LINK Day to the first day fears to hoping that your high school experience will be just as great as those in High School Musical. Of course, everyone’s freshman year and high school experiences are different. Some will love it, some will hate it, and some won’t really have a neutral feeling toward it. Freshman Sam Larzen is one of those that loves the experience so far.

“Rocklin High School is amazing, actually. It’s a lot different from middle school, but in a good way,” Sam said. “The classes are just very different. You get more of an understanding, I would say. You’re more open to solving problems or being more open to your classmates, then you would be in middle school, because you’re timid.”

Even though we’ve only been in school for four weeks, Sam has seen why our school is placed as one of the top high schools in northern California.  She says that it’s easier to understand some of the subjects that she struggled with in middle school and it makes school more enjoyable than middle school.

And, of course, one thing that Rocklin prides itself on is our sense of community. Sam has already joined two clubs on campus: Creative Writing and Book Club, as well as French Club. Joining clubs can help with one trying to connect more with the campus and increase the overall spirit.

“There’s a lot of energy and excitement or spirit about their school.”

In addition to all of this, Sam is pleased to see the many avenues for her hobbies: volleyball and music.

“For volleyball, it’s given me more of a motivation to try out for a sport and just train to try out next year for the Rocklin volleyball team and I’m just more motivated to do it. As well as for instruments, because of piano lab; I want to take that next year,” she said, a smile on her face.

Rocklin High School has a place for everyone and everyone has something they can look forward to. This school is unique in that there’s opportunities for anyone to do anything they love and have a good time doing it.
