Stranger Things: Lives up to the hype

Stranger Things, a show about a small town in Indiana where strange things happen, doesn’t fail to live up to the excitement many of its fans have been talking about since it’s release.

“Friends don’t lie.”

These words were spoken often in Netflix’s new hit show, Stranger Things. The show was put on the streaming website on July 15 and has been rising in popularity ever since.

The show is placed in 1983 in Hawkins, Indiana. In the nearby US Department of Energy facility, a mysterious creature dubbed the demogorgon by a small group of friends, kills one of the scientists and escapes into the woods.

Later, we see a group of four friends, Will Byers, Mike Wheeler, Lucas Sinclair, and Dustin Henderson, playing their favorite game, Dungeons and Dragons. However, once Will, Lucas and Dustin leave their house and go different ways, the demogorgon attacks and kidnaps Will. This kicks off the show and events escalate quickly.

At the same time, a little girl named Eleven also escapes, and tries to find her way through the human world with her powers that the scientists in the facility forced on her. Later, we see her team up with Mike, Lucas and Dustin to help them find Will and get him back from a world known as the Upside-Down alongside Will’s mother, Joyce, and the police chief, Jim Hopper.

This summer hit was just as good as everyone on social media has made it out to be. The action puts you on edge and the storyline makes you hope for the people in this town, and hope that Will can be brought back from the Upside-Down. Along with this, the character development is thorough and doesn’t leave out any of the main cast. Every character is incredibly unique in their own way and that is one of the reasons why this show is so great.

Along with this, the cinematography was beautiful and some of the shots were truly incredible. The Duffer brothers had tried to make the show look like it was placed in the 80’s, and they did a great job with it. The show gives off many of the vibes one would get from watching old 80’s movies and television shows.

And, of course, the actors all had spectacular performances, especially some of the younger ones. They truly are masters of their craft.

Stranger Things has all of the components to a great show, and, because of that, I would recommend it to anyone.
