Swim Takes On SFL League Championships

On April 29-30 the Rocklin High School Swim Team will be diving into the 2016 SFL League Championships. All of the best swimmers in the league will be attending this meet. The SLF League includes Del Oro, Folsom, Granite Bay, Woodcreek, Nevada Union and Oak Ridge. Compared to prior SFL Championships, this championship could be a huge shake-up of which teams are the top finishers.

For the past 17 years, Granite Bay has dominated the SFL Championships, coming on top each year. This year, however, Granite Bay isn’t as strong as it has been in previous years.

The Oak Ridge varsity boys swim team dominated Granite Bay at their dual meet, a team that usually does the dominating themselves. This was the first dual meet Granite Bay had lost in 19 years. Oak Ridge won every event and all three relays; this was a huge upset. The final score of the meet was 92-78.

The Oak Ridge varsity girls swim team, however, fell short of defeating Granite Bay. Their final score was 118-52. Though the women’s team did not complete the task of defeating Granite Bay like the men accomplished, the Woodcreek varsity girls swim team might have a shot of taking down the Granite Bay varsity girls swim team.

At the 2016 NorCal Swimming Championships, the Woodcreek girl’s team dominated Granite Bay. Woodcreek not only won the championship, but beat Granite Bay by two places. Ultimately, Woodcreek won first with 359 points, Davis got second with 348 points, and Granite Bay received third with 303 points. However, Woodcreek lost its dual meet to Granite Bay. If the Woodcreek girls were to put in all efforts to defeat Granite Bay like they did at NorCal Championships, it is possible they could once again beat them.

With the possibility of a huge downfall to the Granite Bay legacy, the Rocklin High School swim team has a chance of placing higher than previous years.

The men’s swim team won its dual meets against Folsom, Woodcreek, Nevada Union, and Del Oro, while the women’s team won meets against Folsom, Nevada Union, and Del Oro. If the swim team were to beat all these teams once again, the men’s team would get third place, while the women’s team would get fourth. This would mean that the men would have the same results as last year and the women would better their last year’s sixth place finish.

Regardless of how the swim team does at the SFL Championships, there will be no question that both the men’s and women’s teams did their best to improve their times and help contribute to the long awaited downfall of Granite Bay.
