Cutts Resigns, Taylor Returns

Just when we thought the big changes for the school year were over, RHS basketball coach, Mr. Casey Cutts, resigned.

The basketball team was without a coach, but the school was searching for a replacement.

According to Mr. Ryan Spears the job was “open to any Rocklin Unified School District employee”.

Coach Cutts quit due to familial obligations. It takes a lot of time and dedication to be a coach, and with a new marriage and a baby on the way, it can be a lot of work.

“If he couldn’t give it a full effort, then he said it was best for him [to quit],” said Mr. Spears.

The basketball team, especially the four-year players, will miss him.

“He was a pretty good coach. All four years that I was at Rocklin he was my coach, so I got really close to him and he was just a good mentor,” said senior Wesley Preece.

Despite the rough season for the team and criticism from younger players, Wesley admires Coach Cutts.

“[I liked] the way he could connect with the players. Practices were really fun. He’s a good guy,” Wesley said.

Coach Cutts is now working as a sale manager for Autowest Honda in the Roseville Automall, and he will be working hard to attend to his new family.

However, now that spring break is over, we finally have a new coach. And it just so happens to be the previous one, Mr. Steve Taylor. He is returning to RHS basketball with lots of experience, having coached the team from 1993-2010.
