Hey, did ya hear ‘bout the show?
It’s been five years since Rocklin’s theater program has performed the musical, “Crazy for You.” Mrs. Cinny Toepke, the theater teacher, however, believes she has the cast for it again.
The musical is set in the 1930’s and follows a banker named Bobby Child. He is unhappy with his job and wishes to be a performer; however, when he has to foreclose a rundown theater, he meets the love of his life, who despises him for what he’s doing.
Grant Cluff, a senior, is the student director overseeing the casts.
“I monitor that everyone’s doing their lines correctly, I give notes on things that they could improve on, and I give praise for the things that they’re doing right,” Grant said.
In cast A, Brett Young, a sophomore, plays Bobby Child and Alison Snider, a junior, plays Polly Baker. In cast B, Jake Young, a senior, plays Bobby, and Marlise Dizon, also a senior, plays Polly.
According to Alison Snider her character is, “very headstrong and independent.”
“I think I’m very close to the character. I think we have very similar personalities. It was deciding the accent that really got me; also I’m not a very good dancer,” she said.
This is the first time that Alison has played a major character in a production here are Rocklin. She did, however, participate in last year’s musical “The Beauty and the Beast” and the “Seussical” musical two years ago.
“I’m so nervous I might die!” she said. “This is the biggest part I’ve ever had, so I think I’m just kind of nervous. I really want to make everyone proud.”
Opening night is tomorrow at 7 p.m. so come out and support the students who have been working hard to put on this show.
