Scream Queens: Comical and Addicting

Nicole Kinser

Scream Queens is the ultimate comedy horror that fits our millennial generation perfectly. The cast widely ranges from pop stars Nick Jonas and Ariana Grande, American Horror Story’s Emma Roberts, Glee star Lea Michele and, the icon herself, Jamie Lee Curtis. Given the starring actors, it’s no surprise that the co-creator of this show, Ryan Murphy, is also the co-creator of Glee and American Horror Story.

This Fox primetime TV show is a parody of the typical scary movie scenario. Its unique combination of suspense with pure comedy makes it addicting to watch.

This show takes place at Kappa Kappa Tau sorority house at Wallace University, home of the Red Devils, which coincidentally is the mask that the killer(s) take on. Kappa Kappa Tau president Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts) gets everything she wants through her insulting and self-centered manner. However, Emma Roberts plays her role so perfectly that it’s hard to hate her.

Chanel #3 and #5 are her working minions that she evidently named after herself. #3 and #5 will do just about anything Chanel says; whether this occurs out of fear or ignorance is hard to tell. Joining them this school year is Hester Ulrich aka Chanel #6 (Lea Michele). Hester goes from a nerd in a neckbrace to the dangerous fresh face on campus that’s turning heads. She has the Chanels to thank for that, giving her a makeover on the outside allowed an abundance of confidence to flourish within.

The main love interest is Chanel’s boyfriend, Chad Radwell. Chad just happens to be the Dicky Dollar Scholars’ fraternity house leader on campus, so basically it’s a match made in heaven, but he seems to be interested in more than one Chanel.

The plotline is simple: a whodunit case that creates speculation towards every character. Each episode is jam packed with blood, terror, a sharp witted laugh and absolutely no sense of real law enforcement whatsoever.

Unfortunately, the Scream Queens first season has come to an end, but with so many unanswered questions left in the season finale, season 2 should soon be on its way. Ryan Murphy has already expressed that he has many ideas, and is ready to jump start this project. Fox has not yet renewed this series but there are rumors that they will do so.

So who is behind the red devil mask? Guess you’ll just have to watch to find out.
