The Suite Life of Old Disney

Growing up, we all remember coming home from elementary school after a long day, flopping onto the couch and flipping on the TV. For a lot of us, I think we can all say that one of the channels we watched the most was Disney Channel.

We all have fond memories of watching the twins Zach and Cody getting themselves into mischief, Raven foreseeing the future, Miley/Hannah Montana (shhh) singing her heart out and the wild adventures of Kim Possible. To this day, none of these shows are no longer on air. Disney has responded by creating new shows to replace them. However, none of these shows match up to what we had growing up.

Disney has completely dropped the ball on their TV shows. Admit it, we all still on occasion watch Disney Channel. While some of the shows they have made recently aren’t too terrible, like Jessie and Austin and Ally, their newest shows have gone from being humorous to just plain ridiculous. Dog with a Blog? Really? A show about a talking dog that blogs all his problems with his human family. If that’s not the most ridiculous TV show, I don’t know what is.

Plus, instead of Disney creating original shows they just rip off other shows they have aired in the past or make spin offs. An example of this would be Kim Possible, a show about a high school  cheerleader by day and a teen crime fighter by night. This fantastic show only made it on Disney Channel for four seasons before they stopped putting it on air which made no sense, considering it was one of the most popular shows. Eight years later Disney creates K.C. Undercover, a show about a high school student who is following her parents’ footsteps to become an undercover spy. Sound familiar?

An additional rip off is Liv and Maddie. The show is about twins Liv and Maddie who look alike, but have completely different personalities. Liv is a girly Hollywood actress and Maddie is a tomboy basketball player. While this might seem like an original TV show, it’s not. Disney has taken two of it’s most popular shows that were once aired and have combined them into one. Shows such as Hannah Montana, a show about a teen pop sensation and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. They might as well have called it The Suite Life of Hannah Montana.

Disney is in fact so lazy that they have taken a show that wasn’t even theirs to begin with. They have taken the show Boy Meets World, from ABC, and have turned it into a spin off called Girl Meets World. Boy Meets World is centered around a teenage boy named Cory Matthews and his friends’ journey growing up. Girl Meets World is about Cory’s daughter, Riley Matthews, but this time the show focuses on Riley’s journey growing up. So basically these two shows’ storylines are exactly the same. Way to go Disney.

In other words, Disney needs to get their act together on their TV shows. Many of them have either been done before, or the overall plot line of their shows are completely absurd. Whatever happened to the shows we all grew up with like Lizzie McGuire, Proud Family and Phil of the Future? Hopefully Disney will soon wake up, and realize that their shows today are completely awful and will start creating new shows that can somewhat live up to the ones we once cherished.
