Stewart’s Quarterly Update
Checking in with Principal Stewart after his first quarter on the job.

Rocklin High has always had great leadership and pride to go along with it. However, last year when Mr. David Bills, Rocklin’s previous principal, left to take a job in Napa, Rocklin High was thrown through a loop. Luckily, Mrs. Jill Spears stepped up to the plate as an interim principal and finished the school year.
As the 2015-2016 school year started to approach, more and more questions were being asked as to who would take the position. Fortunately, our own Mr. Davis Stewart was appointed as the head of office and has been principal of the school ever since.
With seven years as an administrator under his belt, Stewart knows how to run a school. With his previous experience as the Athletic Director at Rocklin High, Stewart knows how our system works.
“My time as an administrator has really prepared me to do a great job as principal here at Rocklin. I helped start up Athletic Senate and I plan to start up a few more programs,” says Stewart.
Before rising to an administrative position, Mr. Stewart spent 13 years teaching in the social studies department. He misses a few things about teaching in a classroom environment.
“I miss the personal connection I had with students,” Stewart explains.
Even though it may seem like the principal is not directly involved with the students, one of Stewart’s goals is to get involved with every student.
“We are trying to give every student a voice. Not just ASB, but everyone’s perspective,” says Principal Stewart.
One way administration is doing this is by continuing Student Senate and giving students other leadership positions.
“With these activities and clubs, it allows for the student’s vision to become a reality,” says Stewart.
Another accomplishment Mr. Stewart has achieved is making the office more customer-service based. For example, they have opened up the office parking lot for parents.
“We now have our staff members park in the back lot, allowing for more open spaces in front of the office,” Stewart adds.
Stress can come with any job but certain positions lead to more stress than others. On a daily basis, principals can either be in meetings all day or dealing with last minute safety issues.
Some people question whether or not change is a good thing. However, without change, people wouldn’t accomplish anything. With all these new positive ideas and goals for the school year, Rocklin High seems to be in good hands.
