For the past five Quarry Bowls, Rocklin has been a dominant force winning four out of the five games (three consecutive).

Last year, Rocklin crushed Whitney, 62-14. However with a new coach, Paul Doherty, and a star quarterback, Whitney poses a real threat to the unbeaten Thunder. Doherty faced Rocklin last year when he was Sacramento High’s head coach.

With Rocklin and Whitney already into two games of the season, Whitney averages 55.5 points a game, while Rocklin has three points higher with a score of 58.5. On the more defensive side of things, Rocklin beats Whitney’s defensive record giving up 49 to Whitney’s 71.

Whitney’s only Quarry Bowl win was in 2011, 48-34. The quarterback for the Wildcats at that time was Jake Rodrigues who is currently playing college football for San Diego State. This season, his brother Hunter Rodrigues is the quarterback.

On August 28th, when Whitney played Oakridge, Rodrigues broke every school record for a single game performance accounting for nearly 600 yards of total offense and eight scores. Even though the Wildcats lost 57-55 to Oakridge, a fourth ranked team in the Sac-Joaquin Section Preseason 2015, proving how much the team has evolved from past seasons.

Rocklin’s team so far has started out strong winning their first two games of the season, while Whitney’s team has gone 1-1 so far in preseason.

On top of a threat of a rising football player, some of Rocklin’s starters will be unable to play in the Quarry Bowl due to a violation of the Athletic Code of Conduct.

“This past weekend we did have some violations of that [Athletic Code of] Conduct…that investigation is still ongoing…there are different degrees of violations…we looked at this situation, and any situation at Rocklin High School, as an opportunity to learn. We always want to pave a path forward for students and student athletes, that’s our main goal, that no matter what the situation is, we try to figure out how we can learn from this and how we can move forward,” a statement from Principal Davis Stewart.

The 2-0 JV faces Whitney at 5:30 followed by Varsity at 7:30.
