Boys soccer faces off against Whitney this Saturday, September 12 following the Quarry Bowl on Friday. Tickets are $3 for children and $5 for adults. All three levels will play in the Rocklin Stadium: freshmen at 4:00 p.m., JV at 5:30 p.m., Varsity at 7 p.m.

Following last year’s Quarry Cup that resulted in a 1-4 loss for the Thunder, varsity soccer is concentrating on playing their best game on Saturday.

Junior Wyatt Walsh, the varsity goalkeeper and one of three captains, feels that RHS has a good shot at the win if they continue to work on a few elements of their game and play to their strengths.

“We’ve been focusing on keeping possession in the attacking third and ultimately scoring goals,” Wyatt said. “Our strengths are in our defensive third; our backs are pretty strong this year.”

Varsity center midfielder Josh Thibeault, also a captain, feels confident about Rocklin’s chances on Saturday as long as the Thunder stay focused and get a good warm up.

“We’re hungry for a win since they’re our rival school,” Josh said. “I know a lot of players on their team because I play with them in club so [I’m looking forward to] just playing against them.”

He also reiterated Wyatt’s comment that the boys are “solid on defense” and added that they “communicate well and talk a lot on the field.”

Both boys are excited to step on the field Saturday night and believe that their team, after improving from last year, has a good shot at beating the Wildcats.
